Russia enhances its support for Saiga conservation by singing the CMS MoU

07.07.2009

Bonn, 25June 2009 - On the occasion of the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on Migratory Species (CMS), the Russian Federation has enhanced its support for the conservation of the Saiga antelope by signing the agreement established in the framework of the Convention. Russia’s signature of the Saiga Agreement is a big step towards saiga conservation and means that all four of the main Saiga range states have now joined this CMS initiative.

For more information on the event see http://www.cms.int/ and http://www.cms.int/species/saiga/saiga_text.htm for the memorandum text. Also read the news piece at UNEP site http://www.unep.org/Documents.Multilingual/Default.asp?DocumentID=589&ArticleID=6232&l=en and in Russian news below.
