We are happy to announce the second international saiga ecotour to southern Russia!

Saiga calves
In 2011 the SCA partnered with a local tour company to establish a new and unique ecotour to the steppes of southern Russia. The tour included visits to key SCA project sites and was designed to offer tourists the opportunity to view the striking and enigmatic saiga in their natural environment, whilst also supporting the work of our passionate, in-country conservationists.

The 10-day visit, arranged by the award-winning Saga Voyages, explored the rich natural history of this little-known region taking in the thriving grasslands of the Southern Russian Steppe, the arid Caspian region and the lush, bird-rich wetlands of the Volga Delta, and involved direct contact with the warm people who inhabit these lands including those of the Republic of Kalmykia, the only official Tibetan Buddhist state in Europe, and the historic city of Astrakhan. The group were accompanied throughout the trip by saiga conservationists and experts in local wildlife providing unparalleled insight into the work we do and the vibrant ecosystem that the saiga inhabits.

Following the fantastic success of this first trip we are now putting together another tour to run in September 2013. For further information please see the official tour flyer below or email us at mail@saiga-conservation.com.
